*** Left the Century to Sit Unmoved – Sarah Pinsker
A trio of teens dare each other – dare themselves – to jump into the local swimming hole. All normal, right? But strangeness piles on strangeness as we learn that this pond has a warranted reputation for swallowing swimmers without a trace; and the girl we see jumping, repeatedly, has a personal connection to this phenomenon. The question is asked: why do we jump?
And the story, as a whole, is an interrogation of human risk-taking.
